Crystallography
4 for 3 promotion: add 4 self-published patterns from my store to your cart and receive the least expensive for free.
Crystallography is a rectangular wrap with pointed ends, a lightweight stole that can also be worn as a scarf when folded lengthwise. It starts with a square worked in the round and is then expanded on both sides with chevron sections worked on the bias. You’ve got the choice of placing the square either at one end or right in the centre of the wrap.
Skills required: Basic knitting skills such as casting on and binding off, knitting and purling flat and in the round, simple lace stitches (yarn overs, right- and left-leaning decreases). The pattern includes a photo tutorial on how to achieve neat i-cord edges.
Yarn requirements: Allow for approximately 440 m (481 yards) of colour 1 (silver) and 400 m (437 yards) of colour 2 (brown).
Depending on your tension and the yarn you choose, it may be possible to complete the stole with one skein (100 g) of each colour. If you try this, be prepared to slightly modify the ends of the first and second part (for example by working an i-cord bind-off with colour 2 instead of the suggested finishing rows).
Thank you to Jo Torr for tech editing and to my test knitters for their valuable input.
