This huggable grumpy monster is based on the Cthulhu character which first appeared in one of H. P. Lovecraft’s short stories. Since then, he has become a popular pop culture figure, appearing in film and games. According to the original description by Lovecraft he is somewhat humanoid but has octopus and dragon features.

This is a pdf pattern that will be available for download immediately after purchase. The pattern is written in English and uses US terminology. The pattern includes photographs to demonstrate special techniques and the assembly of different parts. The pattern also includes links to video tutorials demonstrating specific methods.

Skill level
The pattern requires familiarity with the basic amigurumi stiches and is thus suitable to advanced beginners or intermediate crocheters.

Yarn
This pattern was made using a fine cotton yarn (yarn weight 2). It is possible to make Cthulhu using a different yarn weight, just be aware that this will affect the estimates for the amount of yarn needed, the final size of the toy, as well as the size of hook needed.

The main body needs around 186 yds / 170 m of yarn. Two accent colors in a lighter and darker shade from the main body needs less than 16 yds/ 15 m each.

Other materials
Crochet hook, for the pattern a US 2 (2,5 mm) sized hook was used. You will also need a sewing needle, scissors, fiber fill and stitch markers.

Size
In the standing position Cthulhu is 4,7 inches / 12 cm high
