Faux Fur or Super Chunky Hooded Teddy Capelet

A warm, cuddly capelet with an oversized hood for chunky faux fur yarns (and other chunky yarns). Works up quickly. Aim for about 20 stitches=7 inches in stockinette. This is a simple TV knitting pattern in stockinette. It is easy to follow, and since it’s a faux fur, it will easily hide any “mistakes.” The Faux Fur Hooded Teddy Capelet is knit on the smallest needle recommended by the manufacturer of Fur Lux to make a firmer fabric. This makes for a hood that keeps it shape, framing your face. While there is a curl or roll in any stockinette fabric, faux fur is so soft that this curl is not noticeable. A standard chunky yarn also works very well with this pattern, and King Cole Christmas Super Chunky has been paired with a long eyelash accessory yarn as another sample. An extra repeat of body stitches has been worked to accommodate the stockinette curl, which is still minimal due to the bell shape of the capelet. The curl is also used to advantage to adjust the depth of the hood. The capelet performed well in the field on public transport in and around Dublin. The shape allowed for tossing a small pack or handbag over the shoulder, under the capelet.

Faux fur yarn hides everything. If you are working this capelet in faux fur, I encourage you to not worry too much about perfection in this project, as nothing is going to show anyway. Just have fun with this. Keep going and make it longer if you like. Once the capelet is knitted, there really is no right or wrong side, as the only “seam” (3-needle cast off) is very neat, and in the case of faux fur, is well hidden. Just be sure to put the knit side with the knit side when picking up the stitches at the hood neck edge so that the knit sides are on the same side. Fur Lux is a pretty thick faux fur. You can press other fur yarns into service for this pattern if you double up to make gauge.

Three pompons were added to the King Cole Christmas Super Chunky: One at the peak of the hood, and two on a length of braided yarn slipped through the fabric at the front neck.
