’Skaite-Marie’:
Maria Larsson Märak was born in 1875 in Västerfjäll, Sweden and had Sami as her mother tongue. As an adult, she lived on the mountain farm Skaite in Jokkkmokk’s municipality, Sweden.

Mary was an accomplished knitter. Her characteristic patterns, which was recognized as “Skaite-Marie” throughout the valley of Pärlälven, are made up of squares, lines and triangles. The pattern elements can be founding knitting patterns worldwide but Mary put them together in a way that was just her very own. The technique of the small-patterned structure provides warm, hardwearing and beautiful mittens.

From Skaite there are at least a dozen gloves preserved - working mitts in patterned knitting in a straight model, where all of them have a cord at the side, so they can be tied together and hung up to dry.

Here we have used 16 g of col 1 and 14 g of col 2.
