The Cunene River runs through southern Africa along Angola and Namibia and borders areas that are a natural habitat for Struthio camelus, the common ostrich. For this feminine pullover, JoLene Treace chose a stitch pattern that has the look and feel of ostrich feathers. The sweater is worked in a fingering-weight wool yarn hand-dyed with hydrangea petals by Darlene Hayes (see page 122 of Knitting Green). The natural colors in the yarn shimmer much the same as sunlight reflected off a river.
