If you are in the UK, or have access to Terry’s Chocolate Oranges where you live, then this is a perfect little birthday gift - or you could even knit some up as end of year teacher gifts. It only takes a few hours to complete 1 cosy – minimum effort and cost for maximum reward – homemade gifts are always appreciated!

Each cupcake knits up really quickly, using only a small amount of DK yarn or two strands of 4 ply held together on 3.25mm needles, the cherry and stalk are worked in 4ply with 2.5mm needles.

The cupcake is knit in the round using knit and purl stitches, the cherry is knit straight (you’ll need a small amount of toy stuffing) and an i-Cord makes up the stalk. The cherry and stalk only use a few stitches, so you can use your double pointed or circular needles for these.

I have worked mine using two strands of West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4ply in Pennyroyal held together for the cupcake base and two strands of Drops Nord in Off White held together for the frosting.

The cherry and stalk are worked using 1 strand of 4ply on 2.5mm needles.
