Aunt Ninny has never cared much for babies. She thought she might like them better if they were a tad more—ahem—appetizing, so she cooked up a recipe for camouflaging drool and other residue: the baby cupcake hat. It’s easy to knit, and so darn cute you might forget there’s a diaper somewhere south of it that needs changing.

This tasty little “capcake” comes in four varieties: cherry on top, chocolate squiggles, fluffy carrot cake, and multi-colored sprinkles. All four are guaranteed to distract the gitchie goo-ers from any ill-timed goo.

You’ll need about 35 yds of dk weight yarn for the brim and 65 yds for the icing, plus a few bits of scrap yarn for all the goodies. The carrot cake version has a fluffy haze thanks to a little Angel; the sprinkles are simple French knots in a short-repeat variegated yarn. One size fits most babies and even smaller toddlers.

So roll up your sleeves and whip up a batch. Then tuck ‘em into little cupcake boxes for a perfect shower gift—just don’t forget the wipes.
