Cupcakes Hat
The “CUPCAKES” hat - yummy to knit and to wear!
Makes a great first birthday photo prop. Knit in the round in simple ribbing and purl. The “cherry” and picot edging are crocheted. The optional “sprinkles” are simple straight stitches added later.
THE BASICS
• Pattern includes 6 sizes: Newborn / 3-6 months / 6-12 months / Toddler / Child / Adult
• Pattern is written in ENGLISH and uses standard U.S. knitting terms
• Instructions are for knitting in the round on circular and double pointed needles
• “Cherry” and picot edging are done in crochet
• Gauge: 20 stitches = 4 inches (10 cm)
• Knitting skill level - INTERMEDIATE
SKILLS YOU’LL NEED
• Knitting in the round
• Basic increases and decreases
• Basic crochet stitches (chain, slip, single crochet)
SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED
• Approx. 50 to 100 yds (46 to 91 m) DK or light-worsted weight yarn for “cake” brim
• Approx. 50 to 100 yds (46 to 91 m) DK or light-worsted weight yarn for “frosting” crown
• Approx. 3 yds (3 m) DK or light-worsted weight yarn for “cherry”
• Scraps of yarn for “sprinkles”
• U.S. size 6 (4 mm) 12” or 16” circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge
• U.S. size 6 (4 mm) double pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge
• U.S. size E (3.5 mm) crochet hook
• Stitch marker
• Yarn needle
