Cupid’s Dart Shawl is an easy, pretty, crescent-shaped adjustable size shawl with optional beads. It is easy enough for a beginner lace knitter yet interesting enough for the more experienced. The size is infinitely adjustable by the repetition of one of the charts: you can make it as small as a shawlette or as big as a dramatic cape, it’s up to you.

Gauge is not important, but the heavier your chosen yarn the larger your shawl will become.

You may use any weight yarn, though it was designed for laceweight or fingering. Beads are optional, although positions are given on the charts. Please note, that there are only introductory written notes and no written instructions. Charts only.

Materials

Yarn: From about 300-500m of Zauberwiese Silk and Merino laceweight (800m/100gms) or Wolles Yarn Creations Color Changing Cotton 100gm (439m/100gms), or any other yarn that you prefer. For a medium size shawl (4 x Chart C pattern repeats, as pictured) I used just over 300m of the recommended Zauberwiese. A larger 6 x repeat version used 410m. NB: A 5 x repeat shawl knit in the recommended Wolle’s fingering weight yarn will use all of one ball, thus showing the whole gradient. Yardage and overall size will also depend on yarn weight.

Needles and notions: A pair each of 3mm, 4mm, 4.5mm and 5mm (US 10), or sizes suitable for your yarn. Gauge isn’t important as it doesn’t have to ‘fit’.
A blunt needle for sewing in ends.
Stitch markers,

Beads are optional. I used 293 Matsuno glass beads, size 6, amber-lined teal for the green Zauberwiese silk/merino shawl shown, with 4 x repeats of Chart C. A 5 x repeat will require about 345 beads, and a 6 x repeat about 427.

The pattern is fully tested. Many, many thanks to Jutta, Tish, Kathy, Karen, and Nancy for their time and patience.
