Curupira
Who is Curupira?
From Tupi Guarani, the term Curupira (kuru’pir) means “boy’s body”
Curupira is the name of a character in Brazilian folklore who emerged
among indigenous people. This legend tells of a mythical being,
described as a strong and agile dwarf with flaming hair and feet
turned backward, protector of the forest that turned against those
who damage its habitat. The presence of Curupira could be noticed
through a constant and continuous whistle that tormented those who
entered the forest.
It is one of the oldest legends in Brazilian folklore.
