What other small country with just 10 million inhabitants has so many cultural treasures to offer along with warm people and wonderful scenery? My favourite by far are the Azulejos, the ornamental tiles that can be found on houses as well as in naves. Many are held in a clean white and blue while other can be multicoloured, too. This is why I had to do a knitting project inspired by the Azulejo style. This one with a spiral in the center of the tile.

Welches kleine Land mit gerade mal 10 Millionen Einwohnern hat neben herzlichen Menschen und wunderbarer Landschaft so viele kulturelle Schätze zu bieten wie Portugal? Mein absoluter Liebling dabei sind die Azulejos, die ornamentalen Kacheln, die sich ebenso auf Häuserfassaden breit machen wie in Kirchen-Schiffen. Viele in klarem weiß-blau, einige aber auch mehrfarbig. Daher musste unbedingt eine Strick-Umsetzung der Azulejo-Ornamentik her. Hier mit einem Spiral-Muster in der Mitte der Kachel.
