Cushion Pillow Cover Scandi Zig Zag
I have designed this easy Scandinavian inspired crochet cushion cover pattern with basic crochet stitches using US terminology of chains, single crochet and double crochet stitches. It is not complicated but still has an overall affect of looking fabulous. For UK and Australian crocheters there is a stitch conversion for you. I have also included a handy written and visual tutorial on the puff stitch.
All my patterns are written in my own unique style giving you step by step instructions with large images at each stage so you can track your progress visually as well. This pattern is 14 pages in length.
As this crochet cushion is worked in the round there are no side seams to join which we love. The less seams to join the better I think. The textured design is featured on both the front and the back. The cushion closure is at the top end and closes with 4 buttons.
I have finished this cushion cover in a 10 ply eco cotton with a stitch tension of 15 stitches x 19 rows (10 x 10 cm sq). Any 10 ply or chunky cotton or cotton blend yarn would work well for this project. You could also use an 8 ply yarn but keep in mind the finished size will be smaller than the sizing indicated below so you would need a smaller cushion insert.
MATERIALS
100% Recycled Cotton
CROCHET HOOK: METRIC: Size 4.25mm, USA: G, UK: Size 7.
I used 2 balls of 200g cotton yarn for this project. If you purchased 100g yarn would need approximately 4 balls of yarn depending on the yarn. Any yarn that is a 10 ply cotton or cotton blend would be suited to this project. You can also use an 8 ply yarn but keep in mind the finished cushion cover will be smaller than the size indicators below.
4 x Buttons for closure at the back.
Darning needle to sew in ends.
TENSION - Based on the cotton yarn I used for this project
15 stitches x 19 rows (10 x 10 cm sq)
SIZE
To fit a 40cm square cushion insert - different yarn ply will give a different finished size.
