Cut It Out, Kitty!
This sweater, in sizes to fit 2, 4 and 6 years old, has been designed in double bed jacquard (DBJ), for a Passap E6000, but could be adapted to be knitted on any double bed machine with download capabilities. I downloaded the stitch pattern to my machine using Wincrea, but it could also be downloaded via Designaknit. The BMP file for the stitch patterns will be emailed to the purchaser on request, but the stitch patterns are also in the pattern as graphs.
The pattern file is 18 pages long, with comprehensive instructions and photos in a mini tutorial format on the cut and sew technique I used for this garment, as well as instructions and some helpful photos for the Passap Sandwich Neckline.
The sweater is a fashionable tunic length, which also allows for a wider variation in a child’s height, and there is a buttoned opening on the left shoulder to enable easy getting on and off over big heads.
The neckline, shoulders and sleeve head have been shaped using cut and sew. The front and back body panels are therefore a simple rectangle requiring no shaping on the machine. I chose to shape the sleeve seams, so I’ve provided a simple Form program for this, but have also provided instructions for how to calculate the rate of increase. I’ve provided full scale patterns for all the garment shapes.
Even if you don’t have an E6000, there are useful techniques here that could be used on any Passap or double-bed machine.
