Gauge: 17st in 4inches /10cm in stockinette stitch (row gauge is not important in this case)

This Balaclava is LINED. It is double thickness and very, very warm.

The samples were made using Garnstudio Drops Big Merino and 5mm / US6 knitting needles, Caron Big Cakes and 5mm / US6 knitting needles, Garnstudio Drops Air and 5mm / US6 knitting needles.

You will need: Aran yarn (up to 230 grams for 5-adult size, up to 200 grams for 2-5yr size, and less than 200 grams for the smaller sizes), knitting needles to obtain the gauge (please make sure you make a gauge swatch!), darning needle to weave in the yarn ends. One stitch marker.

Please make a gauge swatch to make sure you match the gauge! The needle size will vary from yarn to yarn and from knitter to knitter! Please check your yarn label to see the needle size the yarn manufacturer recommends to obtain the gauge, make a gauge swatch and adjust the needle size if needed.

The hat part is knit flat, the neck part is knit in the round. Please make sure you have either double pointed needles or a circular needle if you are using magic loop.

Regarding the sizing: the balaclava is stretchy; it will fit most of those who are in their according age/size. 5+ size will stretch to fit most adult heads (up to 60cm / 23.5in circumference).
