Now includes instructions for a two-color cowl!

The Cypress Wrap Cowl is a simple triangle with cords at the two top corners. The cords wrap around and can be loosely tied to keep the cowl snug against your neck to keep the wind off.

The pattern uses bulky weight 5 yarn or two strands of worsted/aran weight 4 yarn. The cowl pictured is made with two strands of Lion Brand Re-Tweed. This yarn is labeled a worsted weight yarn, however being a recycled yarn, it tends to vary slightly (or not so slightly) in thickness from color to color and dye lot to dye lot. I have found that it often feels more like an aran weight yarn than a worsted weight and creates a thicker fabric with less drape than a worsted. I have also used Lion Brand Hue and Me yarn and was able to meet gauge with the same hook and I got a very similar drape as with the Re-Tweed yarn. Two strands of worsted weight or a lighter weight bulky yarn will work fine for this pattern and may be preferred if you would like more drape and a cowl that falls away from your face.

This is an easy level pattern (as defined by the Craft Yarn Council) and is best for advanced beginner to intermediate level crocheters. There are photos to help with stitch placement and a photo tutorial for creating the cords with foundation slip stitches. I used metal aglets on the ends of the cords, but I have included instructions for alternative ways to finish them off.

All of the patterns in my Cypress Collection use the popular moss
stitch. So you can easily create a matching set, or a product line
if you are selling your beautiful creations. The moss stitch is a
simple stitch that is made by alternating single crochets and chain
stitches. In the stitch counts at the end of each row, each single
crochet and chain are counted separately.

Your finished cowl should measure approximately 21” long to the
bottom point and 48” wide from tip to tip (not including the cords).
