The Cyrus shawl is a triangle worked from the top edge down toward the center point. Every right-side row increases by 4 stitches, one on either side of the spine and one at each edge. An applied edge in a contrasting color is worked along all sides to create an elegant and modern look.

The inspiration for the Cyrus Shawl started with color. I have always loved the combination of purple and gold. When researching the color purple, I learned that purple’s ties to royalty trace back to the ancient world, most notably the Persian king Cyrus. In that period and locale, purple dye was sourced from sea snails and was exorbitantly expensive. In fact, a pound of purple wool cost more than most people made in a year. Of course, feel free to knit your Cyrus shawl in any colors your heart desires!

I hope you enjoy this pattern. I’d love to see your shawl! Please find me on Ravelry or Instagram and use hashtags #cyrusshawl and #clairetheobaldknits and tag me @clairetheobaldknits.
