In Dungeons and Dragons, D4s are essential to a sorcerer’s daily life. From gaining HP to calculating the damage from magic missile, every sorcerer needs their own D4. Unfortunately, it is usually only the chaotic neutral ones who wear their dice on their heads. But we can easily fix that.

I originally designed this for another gnome in the party back in a previous campaign. I simply took the classical design of a D4 and removed the bottom. By crocheting along the outside edge of the hat, the seam is much clearer to see while you are wearing it.

As always, there are many variations that you can use to make this hat as silly or as serious as you are.

  • You can try different stitch patterns to give the hat a different texture
  • You can experiment with the yarns, such as using two strands of worsted weight yarn or carrying along glow-in-the-dark embroidery thread.
  • You will notice that when you are done seaming, the bottom of the hat will curl to form a brim. If you do not like that, it can easily be fixed by adding wire to the bottom to keep it in place
  • You could also add a symbol in intarsia to the front of the hat.
