Da Kame Hat

Kame is the Shetland word for the unique ridged hills that typify the Shetland landscape. Our simple, treeless landscape is a hidden world of peat and bog where flora and fauna abound. Sometimes deceivingly bleak, the hills burst into life with plants like bog cotton, bog asphodel, tormentil and heather depending on the season. The hills have remained untouched for thousands of years and now more than ever should be valued and protected. This hat is based on some of the colours I see on my hikes up there.

This pattern includes traditional Fair Isle OXO patterns in warm colours that reflect Shetland landscape. I would recommend using 100% Shetland wool for best results.

The pattern is one size adult but the actual size can be changed quite dramatically using larger or smaller needle sizes.
Please pay particular attention to the required tension as my knitting tends to be tight. I use UK metric 3mm needles but my test knitter used 2.75mm needles to obtain the correct tension.
