Dachshund in a Hot Dog Bed
This pattern is for both a solid colour dachshund as well as a brindle black and tan dachshund, it’s coat, bone, bowls and hot dog shaped bed!
The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used Stylecraft Special Aran yarn for this project (equivalent to light worsted weight) and my finished dachshund measures approximately 9.5cm tall & 15cm long. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn to make both your dog and the bed / accessories to ensure that the pieces will fit.
For the solid colour dachshund you will need the following colours / quantities:
- Main body colour - I used dark brown (approx. 42.5m).
For the brindle dachshund you will need the following colours / quantities:
- Main body colour - I used black (approx. 38.5m).
- Feet & chin colour - I used gold (approx. 8m).
For the bed you will need the following colours / quantities:
- Outer bed colour - I used beige (approx. 63m).
- Inner bed colour - I used cream (approx. 28m).
- Ketchup colour - I used red (approx. 3m).
- Mustard colour - I used yellow (approx. 3m).
For all the other accessories you will need the following colours / quantities:
- Coat colour - I used pale blue (approx. 12m).
- Bone colour - I used cream (approx. 5m).
- Bowls colour - I used light grey (approx. 10m) with small amounts (approx. 3m) of both blue and brown for the removable water and food to go in them.
Please note = The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide and are based on using aran (light worsted) weight yarn with a 4mm hook. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- A pair of 6mm black safety eyes.
- A length of black yarn or thread for adding the nose and mouth details.
- Some toy stuffing.
- 2 buttons for fastening the coat (the buttons I used were 1cm in diameter)
- A metal brush such as a pet slicker brush if you want to make your dog fluffy (this is optional).
- Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some pins, scissors and some stitch markers.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself.
Thank you.
