Daily Double is a superb all-rounder. In classic unisex rib, but worked as two layers to make it double-thick and super cosy, it’s a squishy hug for your head. It looks great on everyone, can be worked in one or two colours and is fully reversible. When made in two colours you get two hats in one! The first layer is worked top down, starting at the crown with Judy’s Magic Cast On and increases for the crown. The second layer is worked bottom up, with decreases for the crown. Finally, one layer is folded inside the other.

SIZE: One size. The rib is very stretchy and will accommodate a wide range of adult head sizes. It is shown on models with head sizes of approx 22 and 23.5 inches/ 56 60 cm. The pattern includes two lengths for a deep brim (long version), or shallow brim/no brim (short version). Instructions are both written and charted.

GAUGE: 40 sts/33 rounds = 4 inches/10 cm in k2 p2 rib, unstretched, after blocking.

NEEDLES: 3.75mm (US 5) circular needle, 40 inch/100 cm for working in magic loop. Needle size is a recommendation only and you may need to change size to obtain correct gauge.

FINISHED LENGTH: (single layer): Shallow brim version: 20.5 inches/52 cm long; deep brim version : 23 inches/58 cm long.

YARN: Any next-to-skin soft yarn dk weight yarn at 220y/200m per 100g held single - 2 skeins; OR fingering weight yarn at 420y/384m held double - 2 skeins.

Grey sample shown in Yarn Barn Australia 8 ply Australian merino in light grey. Pink sample shown in Madelinetosh merino light held double in Persian Rose and Panther.

NOTIONS: 6 fixed stitch markers. It is easier to keep track of the needles if one marker is unique. One locking marker for the single colour version. Yarn needle. Tape measure.

The pattern has been fully tested. Many thanks to my keen test knitters.
