This is a knitting pattern for a black and white dairy cow. Using sport weight yarn, the final cow measures approximately 10 inches tall. I went with the traditional Holstein cow (black and white), but a red/sienna and white combination would make a nice Ayrshire.

The head and body are knitted in round from the bottom up, the nose, ears, horns, arms, and legs are knitted separately and attached later. Lastly, you use duplicate stitching to add the black spots wherever you please.

I used a sport weight yarn with size 3 needles, but you could use any weight yarn as long as you used size-appropriate needles. Just know that bigger yarn=bigger finished animal.

Materials Needed:
Circular needles or DPNs
Crochet hook
Yarn needle
Poly stuffing
Dried beans (I like to put one or two tablespoons in the butt to add some nice weight to the body)
optional safety eyes, if you don’t feel like embroidering eyes (I never feel like it)
