Rowan’s Cashmere Tweed yarn is lofty and light all on its own. When you add KidSilk Haze, you have a most wonderful fabric. I was immediately impressed by how light the fabric felt. It doesn’t require complicated stitches to shine, just a bit of interest. I’ve chosen a traveling stitch pattern and twisted stitches to make Daisetta Slouchy Hat a complimentary hat to my McClellan Pullover pattern. My McClellan Pullover is also light and airy, and this hat has just a bit more heft, for warmth.

Yarns by Rowan (held together throughout):
Yarn A: Cashmere Tweed, shown in #11 Petal
80/20 Wool/Cashmere: 96yds (88m)/25g; 2 balls

Yarn B: KidSilk Haze, shown in #612 White
70/30 Mohair/Silk: 230yds (210m)/25g; 1 ball

Needles

  • 16” circular needles in size US 6 (4 mm) or size used to obtain gauge.
  • US 6 (4 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge, suitable for working small circumferences in the round, for last decreases. (for example, DPN’s or 32”/40” for Magic Loop)
  • 16” circular needles in size US 5 (3.75mm) or one size smaller than size used for Stk st gauge.

Gauge
Yarn A + Yarn B, held together: 18 sts and 26 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Stk st (knit every round) on larger size needle, after wet-blocking.
Yarn A + Yarn B, held together: 20 sts and 32 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Twisted Rib on smaller size needle, after wet-blocking.

This hat is knit bottom up and I’ve recommended a 16” needle, until you switch for the decreases at the top. The YO & SSK sts or “legs” will travel to the left as you knit the body of the hat. I have recommended a 16” needle, to avoid the inconvenience of the sts traveling to another needle.
