From the pattern description:

This short-sleeved sweater was inspired by another unusual pattern, on the wristband of a glove from Dale, Sunnfjord. The original is very bold, in black on a red ground. I have softened the overall effect and added another color to make it more feminine, using dusty pink and blue on a beige background. The body and collar are knitted in a simple lace stitch.
