Dalhousie
This pattern was designed for my company’s summer intern - a going away gift as she returned for her final year at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia.
I wanted something that would knit up quick, be considered stylish by a 20-something, and provide a bit of warmth as the summer turns to fall, and a cold wind comes off the Atlantic.
Mock cables are created by the clever placement of yarn-overs and resemble rolling waves on the ocean. The lace gives it a subtle feminine appeal, and the rib-like quality created by the purl stitches give these mitts lots of stretch for varying hand sizes.
Knit in the round, they are seamless and can be knit to any desired cuff length.
They use a small amount of fingering weight yarn and could easily be knit in a weekend. (Pictured in Wandering Cat Yarns House Cat in “Squid”)
Whether you’re slogging books across a windy campus, or relaxing with a warm cider, Dalhousie is sure to keep your hands toasty warm.
