Damaris Shawl is an asymmetrical triangular shawl knitted with two skeins, one of merino fingering and the other one a mohair and silk lace yarn (Eliane et Gabrielle color mustard from Garance et Compagnie).
These two skeins bought at the Laines en Nord festival inspired me to create this pattern, which I wanted to be large but light and airy with a play of texture and transparency.
The sections are composed of three short parts that give rhythm to the knitting and allow you to adjust the size of the knitting to the amount of wool you have, since it is quite possible to stop after any of these parts (allow for a few grams of fingering to knit a thin border) and to fold over either with the fingering yarn or with the lace yarn held in double.
The parts are composed of moss stitch, a two-tone textured stitch made with slipped stitches by alternating the two yarns and a very simple lace part made with the lace yarn.
Tone on tone, with contrasting colors, wools with spekcles… Damaris allows many variations.
It is also possible to knit it only in fingering, to replace the mohair and silk yarn by a lace yarn of another composition. I encourage you to look at the creations of the testers, some of them have chosen these last options.
The sample is 26 stitches and 24 rows for a 10cm square in moss stitch, washed and blocked.

Damaris Shawl est un châle triangulaire asymétrique tricoté avec deux écheveaux, l’un de mérinos fingering et l’autre un fil lace mohair et soie (Eliane et Gabrielle coloris moutarde de Garance et Compagnie).
Ces deux écheveaux achetés lors du festival Laines en Nord m’ont inspiré ce modèle que je souhaitais grand mais léger et vaporeux avec un jeu de texture et de transparence.
Les sections sont composées de trois courtes parties qui rythment le tricot et permettent d’ajuster la taille de celui-ci à la quantité de laine dont on dispose puisqu’il est tout à fait possible de s’arrêter après n’importe laquelle de ces parties (prévoir quelques grammes de fingering pour tricoter une fine bordure) et de rabattre soit avec le fil fingering, soit avec le fil lace tenu en double.
Les parties se composent de point mousse, d’un point texturé bicolore réalisé avec des mailles glissées en alternant les deux fils et d’une partie dentelle très simple réalisée avec le fil lace.
Ton sur ton, avec des couleurs contrastées, des laines à spekcles… Damaris permet nombres de déclinaisons. Il est également possible de le tricoter uniquement en fingering, de remplacer le fil mohair et soie par un fil lace d’une autre composition. Je vous encourage à regarder les réalisations des testeuses, certaines d’entre elles ont choisi ces dernières options.
L’échantillon est de 26 mailles et 24 rangs pour un carré de 10cm au point mousse, lavé et bloqué.
Le châle mesure 2m50 x 51cm.
