This knitting pattern for a cross body wrap vest was inspired by Claire’s outfits in Outlander. I used an intricate Celtic cable design, making use of the seeded rib stitch edges to give the sweater vest the flexibility it needs to hug your body. It’s cozy, warm and stylish, and easy to make once you get the hang of it.

You will get a PDF (digital) document that includes:

  • Written instructions in English, using US, UK and metric measurements and needle sizes
  • Chart of the cable panel (you can use the written instructions without the chart; this is just here in case you prefer charts)
  • Photos and instructions for binding the piece and assembling it into a vest.

All my patterns are using Calibri font size 13 in black on white, so they are accessible and easy to read on different screens and when printed. All abbreviations and acronyms are explained in the pattern.

The instructions are given for a single size, fitting a bust of 90-110 cm (35.4 – 43.3 in). The pattern includes instructions on adapting it to larger or smaller bust sizes

Skills required: knit, purl, pick up stitches along the edge.

You will need:

  • Circular Knitting needles size 4mm / 8 UK / 6 US. (47 to 59 in) that are 120-150 cm long (47 to 59 in).
  • 1 Crochet needle size 3 mm (US C or D, UK 11).
  • Cable needle one size smaller than the knitting needles.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • (for a Medium sized vest) about 800 metres (880 yards) of DK weight yarn. I recommend Merino because it is a little elastic. More details about recommended tools, yarn and gauge are included in the pattern.

Enjoy making this lovely unique vest!
