Dancing in the Garden
If you study the lace border on this shawlette closely, you will find a lot of things you would find in a garden “dancing” across the edging! It has a wide Russian Hidden Hydrangeas lace border, and I was able to see leaves, potted Hydrangeas, and fern branches in its design. This shawlette is a shallow crescent with a wide border, and is worked from the bottom up. The crescent shape is achieved using short rows, and the body of the shawlette features open intertwined branches. It is worked in fingering weight yarn, although it would also work well in sport or DK weight. I knit it in Madelinetosh’s Tosh Merino Light in fingering weight in the shade of Leaf. The skein had 420 yards on it, and I used about 1 and a half skeins to make the shawlette, or about 600 yards. Lightweight and very wearable, it measures 21 inches at the center, deepest point, and is just shy of 6 feet end to end. Full written instructions, row counts, and charts are included in the pattern.
