Dancing Poppies
It’s Spring!!! My favorite season of all! I’m celebrating the first day of spring today with my new pattern. When I think of Spring, my mind brings up a picture of flowers, lots and lots of them. I see fresh, dancing flowers sun-kissed in a field somewhere hidden in “Valley of Flowers”. I imagine touching them while their pleasant perfume waft through the air. Yes, that’s my true romantic soul speaking. ;)
Here, I present to you, “Dancing Poppies” who are dancing away and beckoning me with their sweet, nodding heads somewhere in those imaginative fields. My pattern, “Dancing Poppies” is an afghan square pattern with poppies like design popping out of the squares. It has an interesting raised texture due to the use of front and back post double crochet.
There are so many ways in which this square can be used: for coasters, placemats, making lots and lots of squares and making a huge throw or a blanket. You can make it in a single color or in multiple colors. Just by changing the colors on the rounds, the design will looks different just like it did in the squares that I have made.
Skill Level:

Materials:
Suggested Yarns:
I made it using a cotton yarn. You may substitute it with any DK weight yarn to make this square.
You will need about 14-15 yards of DK weight/ (11 wpi) yarn in Color A and 22-23 yards of same weight yarn in Color B. This will give you a gauge of 4 stitches and rows = 1 inches in Sc Square.
I Used:
Lotus International (India) Laura Knitting Cotton(100% Cotton); 110 yds101m/1.76 oz 50 g; CYCA # 3): #104 Lavender(A), #White(B), 1 ball each.
Crochet Hook Size:
4.5mm/ US 7 size crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
Notions:
Sewing needle for weaving in the ends.
Gauge:
4 sc + 4 sc rows = 1” (2.54 cm) with a 4.5mm/ US 7 crochet hook.
