"Daniel" A Fair Isle Hat
“Daniel“ A Fair Isle Hat. Easy to make, with plenty of ways to start or finish it. Using knits and purls for ribbing you have options. You can play around with the size by using different yarns and needle sizes. You will have “floats” (carried yarn) across the back of the work. Floats need to be relaxed, otherwise your hat will be too tight. The hat shown is 8 inches tall and 22 inches wide unblocked.
Daniel was named with the help of Gina Hooten. She won a contest on Ravelry.com that helped me to name my next Hat. Thanks for the inspiration. I want to personally thank James Herbison and Joe Wilcox for their input and feedback. Thanks to Naomi Balint for the help in choosing the pictures. Please read the complete pattern, before casting on.
Yarn suggested: Kauni Wool 8/2 Effektgarn Sport 5 Ply (12 wpi), 25 - 30 grams of each color for adult size, 15 grams each for infant. If substituting the yarn, go with wraps per inch (12wpi), make a swatch.
There is a newer version of these hats and it is for worsted weight yarns and different gauge and needles.
Materials: Pictures at the bottom of page.
Yarn : Paton’s Canadiana worsted weight.
Needles: Us 5, 3.75 mm and US 6 or 4.0 mm
Gauge = 9 sts and 12 Rounds = 2 inches on us 5 or 3.75, in stockinette.
