Danish Christmas Heart
Every December of my childhood, I’d sit down with my family to make new Christmas decorations for our tree. My favourite was the traditional Christmas heart folded out of paper. They could be as simple or as intricate as my mood called for, and I found it very therapeutic to find the right pattern and the right colours to combine.
Once I became halfway proficient at knitting, I knew I wanted to try to make a yarn version of my childhood ornaments. While not as sturdy, nor as capable of holding much Christmas candy as its paper cousin, I find that the end result has its own charms.
Materials
Scrap yarn in two colours and needle to match. Stitch holder (optional), needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge doesn’t matter as size is adjusted accordingly. 2-stripe sample is knit in fingering weight yarn on size 3mm needles and has gauge 8sts / 4cm. Wingspan: 7cm, top-to-bottom: 6.5cm.
