Danseys Pass is on a remote, mostly unsealed road in the Kakanui Mountains between Central and North Otago, in the South Island of our beautiful New Zealand. The views of the craggy, tussock covered mountains from the road are breathtaking, and the old coach inn on the way to the Pass is authentically old fashioned with it’s huge couches and toasty open fire. Such a great place to stay.
These socks, with their simple fair isle pattern have a rustic alpine feel about them. They are just the thing to wear on a wintery day up on the Pass, when the river below has given up flowing and succumbed to the icy winter.

Danseys Pass Socks are a toe-up unisex ankle sock featuring striking and simple fair-isle colour work and a whole lot of stocking stitch.

The pattern references Judy Becker’s Magic Cast On with a link to a tutorial, and there is also a link to the Short Row Heel method, with written instructions to support that link. The cuff features a folded, then woven hem, and you will find a link to this technique in the pattern notes as well.

This pattern is written for three sizes: small, medium and large. They will fit feet with an approximate circumference of 21cm, 23cm and 26cm, respectively.

Supplies:

• 4ply sock yarn in three colours - 50g main colour (MC) 30g contrast colour one (CC1) 20g contrast colour two (CC2)
• one stitch marker
• darning needle 
• 2.25mm (US 1) knitting needles. These instructions are written for magic looping, but you can use your preferred method of sock knitting.
