Dark and Stormy
This design is an updated version of the shawl collared cardigan from the 1940s or 50s that I remember worn by my favorite grandpa. I played with a more modern take on the classic. New and interesting cables, a fit that skims your curves and ends where your jeans start, and a gorgeous variegated yarn add a little twist to the original.
The sweater body and sleeves are worked seamlessly from the top down, and the design features raglan shaping in the yoke. The shawl collar is picked up around finished body and worked flat to end, with short row shaping to create a deeper fold.
Cable instructions are both charted and written, and pattern includes notes on modifying sweater for a more personal fit.
Sizes:
32(34,36,38,40,42,44)(46,48,50,52,54,56)“
81.25(86.5,91.5,96.5,101.5,106.75,111.75)(116.75,122,127, 137.25,142.25)cm
Sizes based on finished circumference around bust. Choose the size that corresponds to your actual bust. Pattern is written with 3-4”/7.75-10cm of ease, and actual measurements are included on last page of PDF.
Yarrdage Needed:
1100(1200,1300,1350,1400,1500,1600)(1650,1700,1800,1900,2000,2100)yds
1005(1100,1190,1250,1280,1375,1465)(1510,1555,1650,1740,1820,1920)m
Sweater requires worsted weight yarn. I recommend a yarn without much visual interest, or the cable details might get lost. A subtle semi solid, a heather, tweed, or a solid color yarn that knits to gauge will work best.
