The garment was her only accessory… She lived in it outdoor, collecting wood, herbs and the few edible things the forest was able to give. The cowl had seen better days, like we all had seen better days since the king had fallen… but it was precious to her and she took care of it, darning it with what she could find, some yarn scraps or even a patch from some old and disintegrated knitted item.

This cowl is knit in the round with provisional cast-on. You do not need to know any special technique for that. Both ends of the tube will be joined with kitchener stitch.
There are small charts to be knit which are not written out.

The yarn

200-300g/800m of Fingering Weight yarn in a semi-solid, solid or heathered colour of your choice. Yardage depends a lot on gauge and the yarn itself. For “wooly” yarns (more than 70% wool, or woolen spun) testers needed more than 200g.

As I love contrasts, I chose a 50/50 silk/merino mix. The glossy shine of the material and its softness come out well against the mock ragged look.
However, you are completely free in your choice! Please consider when using pure cotton and silk, or high cotton and silk content, the cowl may grow after finishing, and the result may be longer and narrower than intended. This is due to the properties of the fiber but also the seamless construction.

Der Schal war ihr einziges Accessoire… Sie lebte in ihm, wenn sie draußen umherstreifte, beim Sammeln von Holz, Kräutern und dem wenigen Essbaren, das der Wald hergab. Der Schal hatte bessere Tage gesehen, so wie wir alle bessere Tage gesehen hatten, seit der König gefallen war… aber er war kostbar für sie, und sie pflegte ihn. Wenn immer es notwendig war, flickte sie ihn, mit Garnresten, oder einem Flicken von kaputten alten Strickstücken.

Der Cowl wird in der Runde gestrickt. Beide Enden des Schlauchs werden mit dem Maschenstich verbunden. Es ist keine besondere Technik für den provisorischen Anschlag nötig.
Es sind kleinere Diagramme enthalten, die nicht ausgeschrieben sind.

Das Garn:

200-300g/800m Garn in Sockenwollstärke (ca. 400m/100g). Der Verbrauch hängt von der Maschenprobe und dem Material ab. Tester haben bei Garnen mit mehr als 70% Wolle mehr als 200g verbraucht.

Ich liebe Kontraste! Daher habe ich eine Mischung aus 50% Seide und 50% Merino gewählt. Das glänzende, weiche Garn bildet einen schönen Gegensatz zu dem Flickenlook.
Du hast jedoch absolute Freiheit bei Deiner Garnwahl. Baumwolle und Seide in hohem Anteil können beim Tragen ausleihern und den Schal schmaler und weiter als beabsichtigt werden lassen. Das wird durch die nahtlose Konstruktion evtl. noch verstärkt.
