She had been wearing them for years and years. They had kept her feet warm. Every now and then they showed a tendency to disintegrate, but she held on to them adamantly. Darning these socks was like following the steps of Sisyphus. She could not tell how much of the fabric was original, but one thing was sure: She would hold on to this pair of socks. Maybe in the future she would have to sacrifice one of the socks to salvage the other… and find a fraternal twin, or the resources to make one.

These socks are knit from the cuff down.
I am including heel instructions, but you can always replace it with your favourite heel method.
The toe includes a 10 st. grafting. Again, use your preferred method for toe construction if you like.

Die Socken hatten sie schon viele Jahre lang begleitet. Hatten ihre Füße warm gehalten. Ab und zu drohten sie auseinanderzufallen, doch sie war fest entschlossen, dieses Paar Socken zu retten. Sie zu stopfen war eine Sisyphusarbeit. Schwer zu sagen, wieviel des Gestricks noch original war. Doch eine Sache war sicher: Sie würde diese Socken nicht wegwerfen. Vielleicht würde sie einmal einen der beiden Socken opfern müssen, um den anderen zu reparieren. Ein ungleicher Bruder würde das Paar wieder vervollständigen müssen.

Diese Socken werden vom Bündchen abwärts gestrickt.
Ich habe eine Fersenvariante in der Anleitung beschrieben. Man kann jedoch jede andere bevorzugte Fersenvariante einsetzen.

Die Zehenkappe wird mit dem Maschenstich geschlossen.
Auch hier ist jede andere Variante möglich.
