Dashwood Sisters' Shawl
From the Designer’s Notebook…
I believe that Elinor and Marianne both would have had a shawl like this in their possession. Perhaps Elinor would have worn it to warm her shoulders in an effort to stave of the coldness she felt in the absense of Edward. Marianne might have worn it during her long hours spent at the pianoforte playing her melancholy tunes… or whilst being read to by Col. Brandon as she mended from her brush with death.
When I designed this shawl, I included elements that represent both of the sisters’ personalities and the contrasts between them. The textures mixed with lacy eyelets form those contrasts amongst the knitted stitches, adding character to the finished shawl.
