This shawl was designed and knit for my daughter for her wedding.
Her name means “dawn orchid” on Mandarin.
The white version, is longer and takes about 950m of laceweight handspun. It is 24” by 72”.
The shorter version in aubergine was my stole for the wedding.
It is made from 1 skein of 50/50 merino/silk laceweight yarn ( 700m 100g) from Tabi of Sericin Silkworks, and uses beads in place of nupps.
The shawl is worked in one piece from the middle with a provisional cast-on. It is worked first in one direction and then the provisional cast-on is unpicked and the second half is worked to match. There are a variey of Estonain stitches in the shawl.
A lacey side edge is worked at the same time as the body.
It is finished with a crocheted bindoff.
The stole can be made longer by working additional repeats of the centre motif.
This is rated as intermediate in difficulty because the stitch count varies due to the side borders.
