Day in the Forest
I love a day in the forest! I put on my hiking shoes, and a nice pullover, I spend hours walking, listening to the birds, admiring the nature, the flowers and the leaves…. After a day in the forest I return to the city with new energy; and lots of new knitting ideas:)
And I loved working this pullover - with the Aran-weight it was flying off the needles.
My newest design will fit just perfectly for the next walk under the trees. The cozy pullover has lots of room for movements and layering. The collar gives good weather support and I will just love to wear all those leaves that emebellishes the front, the back and also the lower sleeves above the cuffs.
Construction
The pullover is worked seamlessly.
The lower body is worked bottom-up and in-the-round to underarms, starting from a ribbed hem. The lace-pattern is featured on the front as well as on the back.
The sleeves are worked bottom-up and in-the-round to underarms, starting from a ribbed hem, followed by a leaf-pattern above the cuffs. The main-sleeve is worked in stockinette sts.
At underarms body and sleeves are joined and continued in one piece and in-the-round. Decreases are worked towards the front, back and sleeves, later over sleeves only. The sleeve-cap construction gives the look of a set-in-sleeve, however you never have to pick up andy sts, work any seams or shortrows.
From the neckline work is continued back and forth.
Shoulders are bound-off using the 3-needle bind-off method.
Sts are picked up along the neckline, and the collar is worked in-the-round.
Sizes
Finished chest circumference: 87/92/96/101/106/110/115/120/125/130 cm = 34/36/38/40/42/43.5/45/47/49/51”.
Sample is worked in size 1, with a couple of inches of ease.
Materials
Yarn: I recommend that you use an Aran weight yarn with great stitch-definition. I used “Cyrano” by De Rerum Natura to work the pullover. This yarn comes in balls of 100 gr/3.53 oz and 150 meters/164 yards. You will need 6/7/7/8/8/9/9/10/10/11 balls of this specific yarn. Needles: a long circular needle, 80 cm/32”, needle size 5 mm/US8 to work the ribbed hem of the lower body.
A long circular needle, 80cm/32” (or longer), needle-size 5.5 mm/US9 to work the main and upper body. A set of 5 dpns (or a circular needle, if working the magic loop), needle-size 5 mm/US8 to work the cuffs. A set of 5 dpns (or a circular needle, if working the magic loop), needle-size 5.5 mm/US9 to work the sleeves. A small circular needle, 40cm/16”, needle-size 5 mm/US8 to work the neckline. Notions: 8 stitch-markers. Tapestry needle. Separate holders. Row counter.
Gauge
17 sts and 24 rounds in stockinette sts = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”
