Day of the Dead Lace Motif
As most anyone who knows me knows, I am thoroughly fascinated with skull iconography worldwide.
For this year’s Dia de los Muertos, I wanted to whip up some little gifties to share out & celebrate.
So, I created this little motif pattern by taking the generously free Lost Souls Shawl & Döskallesjal patterns, along with what I’ve learned from the Pineapple Crochet Book (Leisure Arts #4864, 50 Fabulous Pineapple Crochet Motifs by Jean Leinhauser and Ferosa Harold) to isolate & frame out a single skull for use as an applique, ornament, pennant, patch, or even a coaster.
I don’t know the exact yardage needed for this approx. 3” wide, 5” high motif, but it couldn’t be more than 40-50 yards.
Materials:
2.25 mm (Size B) Crochet Hook
Your preferred brand of #10 crochet cotton
Scissors, Safety Pin Style Stitch Markers, a small Blunt Needle
Gauge: Not Important, but the motif looks better if the gauge isn’t too
snug, but it can get shapeless & wonky if you use any hook larger than 2.25 mm.
In honor of all the free patterns I’ve enjoyed over my years on Ravelry, I offer it freely. If you feel the need to pay or contribute, then please give any donation you deem appropriate to our treasure of a non-profit Educational Center/Historical Site/Fiber Studio (http://littleloomhouse.org/llh1/wp/).
