Debbie Vest
I wrote this pattern after a good friend asked me to make her a warm bright coloured vest for her birthday. I hunted around and could not find a simple top down V neck vest so I made this one up, dyed the wool and knitted her one.
This pattern is a very basic top down V neck vest with nice deep armholes so the wool isn’t right under your arms. It is made to fit a size 8-12 lady with a small to medium sized bust. This is a great blank canvas pattern as you can easily add in shaping to suit your needs.
You start by knitting the front two pieces of the V neck flat until the bottom of the armholes. The back is then started as two pieces and joined as one to make a more shaped neckline. You knit this until the bottom of the armholes then join the front and back pieces in the round. The shoulders are grafted together with a 3 needle bind off and the sleeves and neck knitting in ribbing.
You will need to know how to do a provisional cast on, 3 needle bind off and Jeny’s stretchy bind off. (links are included to tutorials). There is a chart at the end to follow through for the front and back pieces.
This pattern has been rewritten and the design style updated in 2020.
