This colourwork pattern inspired by Art Deco wallpaper was first featured in the Deco Pullover, which is (at least where I live) a summer knit. That pattern requires working colourwork flat, which can be a challenge! Deco circular takes the same pattern and translates it into a circular yoke sweater, thereby avoiding those dreaded WS rows. Since the first version is light and summery, I wanted this version to have the sleeve and body length needed to get me through a Canadian winter.

Deco Circular is knit from the top down in the round. The collar is cast on first, with short rows used to shape the neckline. The colourwork chart is established and carries through to the underarm. The yoke is divided into sleeve and front and back stitches, with the sleeve stitches put on hold. Underarm stitches are cast on, and the body continues in the round to the hem. The sleeves are taken off of hold, and worked from the top down in the same pattern as the bodice.

The pattern includes charts for both long floats and for the ladderback jacquard method. The sample was made using the ladderback jacquard method. Yardage calculations are based on using this technique for managing floats for the colourwork.
