Welcome

Welcome to my Art Deco inspired pattern Deco Diamonds.
I made two versions and I couldn’t decide which one I liked best, so you’re getting two patterns for the price of one: Big Deco Diamonds and Small Deco Diamonds.
The pattern is worked in Overlay Mosaic Crochet, aka the one row method.

The pattern includes

  • Charts (with X’s for the double crochets) and written instructions for both the versions
  • Instructions on mosaic crochet (including pictures), on reading the charts and on joining the squares
  • Color inspiration
  • Instructions and pattern for a double border

Size

The Big Diamonds blanket measures 150 x 220 centimeters/59 inches x 87 inches, which is six repeats wide and four repeats high and includes the double border.
The Small Diamonds blanket measures 135 x 190 centimeters/53 inches x 75 inches, which is nine repeats wide and six repeats high and includes the double border.

Yarn stats

I’m giving you the yarn stats for Stylecraft Special DK, because that is what I used. You can of course use different yarn, but the amounts needed and size of your blanket may be different.

Amount needed for the total blanket with the double border for the Big Diamonds (6 repeats wide and 4 repeats high): 2.192 grams/78 ounces; specifically, 1.055 grams/38 ounces of color A and 1.137 grams/40 ounces of color B.

Amount needed for the total blanket with the double border for the Small Diamonds (9 repeats wide and 6 repeats high): 1.449 grams/52 ounces; specifically, 713 grams/26 ounces of color A and 736 grams/36 ounces of color B.

For the main body of the blanket, you will need a 4,5 mm hook (7 hook). You will also need a hook one size smaller than that for the border.

My blankets

I used Stylecraft Special DK for both blankets.
For the Big Diamonds blanket I used 10 balls of Pistachio as color A and 8 colors for color B. Those colors are: Bright Pink (2 balls), Lipstick (2 balls), Claret (2 balls), Burgundy (2 balls), Emperor (1 ball), Plum (1 ball), Boysenberry (1 ball), Fuchsia Purple (1 ball).

For the Small Diamonds blanket I used 8 balls of Gold as color A and 12 colors for color B (each of them 1 ball). Those colors are:
Spearmint, Aspen, Turquoise, Empire, Teal, Petrol, Lapis, Royal, French Navy, Midnight, Black, Emperor.
