One of my favorite things to crochet for the holidays are Christmas trees! This is actually the third Christmas tree pillow I have made. I wanted to try adding some lights to the tree this time. I only had less than one ball of each color of the Cascade yarn in my stash, so I had to use two shades of pink for the wall behind the tree. The floor is dark green. The rows of lights do not require very much yarn, so this is a good project to use up little amounts of leftover yarn.
I used the following colors: primrose, veiled rose, sunshine, avocado, natural, purple ice, pink sapphire, bright olive, chartreuse, cool mint, and ice. However, any dk weight yarn will work. If you are using a different yarn, after you finish the front side, measure it, and it will fit a pillow insert that is 1-2 in (2.5 - 5 cm) larger than it. You will also need a 3.00 mm crochet hook, 16 by 16 in (40 by 40 cm) square pillow insert, and 5 buttons (1.5 cm in diameter). The buttons allow the pillow to be taken on and off the insert.
Since this pattern incorporates some colorwork, I filmed a YouTube video where I make a swatch for the pillow. The swatch is basically a miniature version of the pillow. Even if you are new to colorwork, if you can follow along with the video and make the swatch, I definitely think you could make the pillow! I have also included the written pattern for the swatch in the pdf. There is another short video to demonstrate how to join the pillow. I hope you enjoy the pattern! Merry Christmas!
