Decoy Hornet Wasp Nest
Hi there! Have hornets &/or wasps in your yard? Hang a decoy nest, optionally filled with mint! They avoid confrontation with existing nests, & have an aversion to mint. (Yes, it really works--look it up!)
This original pattern design in US crochet terms may not be distributed or sold as your own, but feel free to sell a finished decoy nest made from this pattern!
level: intermediate
skills: know how to ch (chain), sl st (slip stitch), dc (double crochet), fpdc (front post double crochet = same as regular dc except instead of inserting hook into the top of the stitch, you insert hook around the post of the stitch itself), dc dec (double crochet decrease = yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull back through, yarn over, pull through two loops leaving two loops on hook, yarn over, insert hook into next st, yarn over, pull back through, yarn over, pull through two loops leaving three loops on hook, yarn over, pull through all three loops; one dc decrease made)
hook: N/10mm
yarn: any super bulky yarn in grays &/or browns
additional materials (optional): mint &/or fiberfill or other filler, or can be left hollow
size: ~10” wide x ~10” long
As a crocheter for 20+ years now & a former professional proofreader, you can crochet this with the confidence that it has been gone over with a fine-tooth comb!
Feel free to contact me anytime with pattern-related questions, & I’ll typically get back to you within 24 hours.
Enjoy!
