Deer/Buck hat and shorts newborn set
Materials Needed:
H/5mm crochet hook
One skein of worsted (#4) weight yarn in color 1 (I used Red Heart Super saver Cafe Latte)
Small amount of worsted (#4) weight yarn in color 2 (I used Red Heart Super Saver Buff)
Measureing tape
Sewing Needle
Stuffing or scrap yarn (if you want to stuff your antlers, but I didn’t)
Abbreviations & Terms - US Terminology:
Magic Ring -or ch 2 and sc the number of stitches in the first ch
St -stitch
Ch -chain
Sc -single crochet
Dc - double crochet
Hdc - half double crochet
Hdc inc - 3 hdc in the same st
Picot - ch 2 and sl st to the first ch
FPDC - front post double crochet
BPDC - back post double crochet
BLO - back loop only
Inc -increase -work 2 sc in the same st
Dec -decrease -sc the next 2 stitches together
Sl St -slip stitch
Join -sl st into st indicated
FO -finish off
C1 - color one
C2 - color two
When you see something within ( ) perenthesis followed by x ex. (2 Sc, Inc) x 6, that means to complete what is inside the ( ) by as many times as said after it.
When you see a number within the ( ) at the end of an instruction, that is the number of stitches you should have completed in that row.
The hat is size 0-3 months to have the leeway for babies with a slightly larger head at birth. The shorts are a typical newborn size. (I’ll update with the hat and shorts width and height when I get the chance.)
Keep in mind that everyones tension is different, so you may need you go up or down a hook size to meet the intended size. If you decide to change the yarn brand, you may also need to play around with hook size.
You’ll need to know how to crochet in the round, with rows in a spiral, work rows back and forth, joining rows, and sewing pieces together.
