This hat begins with a fun twisted ribbing that also gives great fit to the brim. Then the eyelet pattern lends a delicate look to the hat, as well as providing some interest to the knitting - but there are plenty of soothing rows of stockinette as well. The combination makes it a great travel project!

The pattern includes instructions for five sizes, with options to make a beanie, slightly slouchy hat, or very slouchy hat for each. This hat is worked in the round.

S/ teen or women’s snug, finished circumference 19”/ 48 cm
M/ women’s regular, finished circumference 20.5”/ 52 cm
L/ women’s large, finished circumference 22”/ 56 cm
XL/ women’s extra large, finished circumference 24”/ 61 cm

Choosing a size: This hat will fit nicely with about 2”/ 5 cm of negative ease: in other words, the XS size will fit nicely for a head size of up to 19”/ 48 cm.
Of course, individuals vary in head size, so knowing your/ your recipient’s head size, if possible, will be your best guide to size choice.

Gauge: 28 stitches and 36 rows = 4”/ 10 cm in stockinette stitch

Yarn selection: You will need approximately 125 (150, 185)(220, 250) yards sock/ fingering weight yarn. This hat looks great in solids, tonals, gradients, and variegated yarn.

Needles: US #3 / 3.25 mm or size needed to achieve gauge. This hat is worked in the round. A 16”/ 40 cm circular needle will work for most sizes; for XS, you will probably find a 12” circular or dpns to be more comfortable.
If using circular needles, you will also need dpn’s as the number of stitches decreases for the crown shaping. Alternately, you can use a much longer circular needle with the “Magic Loop” method.
