MATERIALS

This is a very flexible shawl - yarn wise. It can be knitted with any weight yarn: fingering, sport, DK or worsted. Since it is such an airy knit, almost any fiber will work beautifully - depending if you want a cool summer wrap or something a bit warmer. It’s your choice (the examples are Sport and Worsted.) The instructions remain the same for all weights and fibers - you will simply be doing more or less pattern repeats to get your desired shawl size. Speaking of size, depending on the number of 6-row repeats knitted, you can make your shawl larger, smaller or keep it how the pattern is written. Like I said, it’s flexible.

SPORT WEIGHT INFO:

Approximately 230 grams (720 yards) for size as shown

24,” 32,” 40” circular needles between a size 4 and 6 - whatever will produce a nice, not too stiff, not too loose, kind of drape-y shawl like fabric. You know what I mean. You will be using all three lengths. Please see the helpful hint about needles below.
Examples were knitted with:
#1 - Madelinetosh Pashmina (75% Merino wool, 15% Silk, 10% Cashmere) 115 grams (360 yards) - 2 skeins in colorway Mirth (a rich, deep turquoise) Size 5 needles
#2 - Madelinetosh Pashmina (75% Merino wool, 15% Silk, 10% Cashmere) 115 grams (360 yards)- 2 skeins in colorway Wildflower (a soft mix of greens, neutrals, pinks, etc. Just like a field of wildflowers) Size 5 needles
WORSTED WEIGHT INFO:
Approximately 345 grams (552 yards) for size as shown
24,” 32,” 40” circular needles between a size 5 and 8 - whatever will produce a nice, not too stiff, not too loose, kind of drape-y shawl like fabric. You know what I mean. You will be using all three lengths. Please see the helpful hint about needles below.
Example was knitted with:
Magpie Fibers EQUINOX worsted (65% silk, 35% linen) 115 grams (184 yards ) - 3 skeins in colorway Desert Rose (a lovely dusty pinkish rose)

Tapestry needle to weave in ends
Stitch markers
Row counter
Optional: yarn scale - this handy tool has lots of uses when knitting (you can also use a diet scale, a postage scale, etc.)

APPROXIMATE GAUGES: Exact gauge isn’t that important - it’s a shawl, after all. That said, in general your gauge will be between 18-28 stitches and 21-30 rows in garter stitch to 4”/10 cm. after blocking, depending on the weight yarn you use.

APPROXIMATE FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: between 68-74” along neck edge, and between 29-31” deep at center point

An easy-breezy knit shawl with a 6-row repeat and lots of dropped stitches, the Delta Breeze is the quintessential project for summer knitting - or anytime you want a knit that’s fun and relaxing at the same time. Why call it Delta Breeze? Living through many hot Sacramento, California (USA) summers, one of the best things is when the scorching heat of the day gives way and the lovely Delta Breeze kicks in. It’s been described as nature’s air conditioner - a cold, moist breeze that blows in from the San Francisco Bay - which is 100 miles away. Sometimes when it does, we reach for a light wrap - just like when we’re in an air-conditioned building. The Delta Breeze is a perfect choice, since all the dropped stitches make it so comfortable to wear, no matter what the thermometer says. The shape of this shawl is a lovely, wearable, elongated triangle, with a gently curving upper edge that hugs your neck beautifully. And it’s so versatile! It can be worn as a traditional wrap, draped lightly over your shoulders, as a shrug of sorts, or even tied as a beach wrap around your waist.
