Denim Afghan
Additional gauge information:
9 stitches and 20 rows to 4 in (10cm) over garter stitch with denim fabric using US 10.5 (7mm) needles
Denim yarn shrinks by about 1/5 over its length, so it is important to wash the gauge swatch to get an accurate stitch count.
Yarn requirements:
- 15 skeins of Rowan Denim, any color
- 3 skeins of Jaeger Aqua in Red
Material requirements:
- 3 yds (3m) denim fabric, 60 in (150cm) wide
- 3 yds (3m) piping cord, 1/4 in (6mm) diameter
- 1.5 yds (1.5m) medium weight batting/wadding
Other necessary supplies:
- Sewing machine
- Rotary cutter
- Tapestry needle
- Cable needle
- Handsewing needle
- Denim blue sewing thread
- Red sewing thread
- Chalk pencil
Designer notes:
This afghan just gets better with age. The dyes fade and the edges of the knitted fabric strips fray and soften. In this case the denim fabric was bought especially for the project, but given a large, fast-growing family, it won’t take long to find well-worn pieces that were destined to be thrown away.
