Few textiles encapsulate both at-home coziness and out-there adventure like denim. Your favorite denim jacket makes you feel like you can take on the world and all its challenges; at the same time, what is more relaxing than stretching out on the couch for a nap while wearing your oldest blue jeans (that took five years to break in perfectly)?

The triangular Denim Chill Shawl combines clean lines and earthy textures to give you the perfect stand-alone or layering accessory for whatever the day holds. Alternating stockinette stitch and seed stitch stripes between two different colors creates a subtle stitching effect resembling stitches on denim garments.

The pattern was inspired by a cotton/denim blend, but it can certainly be knit in other fibers too! I knit my sample in a tonal variation, but high-contrast colors would also work well.

Size: Width is approximately 22 in / 55.9 cm. Length is approximately 54 in / 137.2 cm. The final measurements will vary based on how gently or aggressively you choose to block.

Gauge: Approximately 18 sts / 32 rows to 4” / 10 cm in blocked Stockinette Stitch pattern. Exact gauge is not critical for this pattern as long as you are comfortable with the resulting fabric and size of the shawl.

Yarn: DK or Light Worsted weight yarn. The sample uses Rowan Denim Revive (95% Cotton, 5% Other fibers; 109 yds / 100 m per 1.8 oz / 50 g ball) in colorways “Bluewash 211” and “Greige 215”.
Yardage / meterage per color are as follows:
Color A: 370 yd / 338.3 m
Color B: 215 yd / 196.6 m

Needles: Size US 7 / 4.5 mm circular needles, or whatever attains gauge. I recommend a needle length of at least 32 in / 81.3 cm.

Notions: Stitch markers, darning needle. Optional: blocking wires and pins.
