This is a simple, gently curved scarf/shawlette, perfectly reversible. It features a beautiful handspun and hand-dyed silk yarn and the subtle spark of a few randomly-placed tiny beads (optional).

The interesting texture is a product of what I call “random rows” knitting, where each row has a different (and random!) sequence of knit and purl stitches. This technique produces a naturally flat, cushy fabric that does not curl and has identical right and wrong sides. There is also the subtle spark of a few randomly-placed tiny beads (optional). The pattern for this shallow, triangular shawlette is written, not charted, and is suitable for a beginning knitter.

The scarf as I have knitted it is 48 inches wide and 12 inches deep, using about three quarters of a skein, or about 250 yards. It can easily be made larger by using a different yarn, different size needles, or simply continuing to knit in pattern if you have more yarn. Because this is a shawl, gauge is not as crucial as it would be for a garment; I got 6 stitches and 11 rows unblocked.
