Introducing the Desk Set Vest! This 1950s low V-neck, buttoned front vest is a recreation of the marvelous vest worn by none other than Ms Katharine Hepburn in the 1957 film Desk Set! I love the style of this vest for so many reasons: it’s a classic shape, a wardrobe staple, gives off those Dark Academia / autumnal vibes many of us are yearning for at this time of year, and duh, because Katharine freaking Hepburn wears it!!

The Desk Set Vest is worked up in a DK weight knitted semi-firmly with a slipped stitch pattern throughout. Not only does the slipped stitch pattern add interest & texture, it also add the ever-important structure needed for this vest.

I would classify this as an intermediate pattern, as it will require “at the same time” shaping sequences for the side shaping and front v-neck while maintaining a stitch pattern.

Like always, my garment patterns use a body measurement x gauge system of pattern writing, making them fully size inclusive and tailored to your personal measurements. There are plenty of resources at Squid School to get you started on this method of pattern instruction! This pattern is available exclusively at Squid’s School of Vintage Knitting.
